June 2018 Income Report

Hey everyone!  Welcome to my June 2018 Income Report!  In this post, I’ll show you exactly how I earned over $1000 this month.

Unlike some other bloggers, I don’t regularly release income reports, for the simple reason that my income has not been consistent enough month-to-month.

That said, it looks like I may have reached the point where I can expect to generate blog-related income on a monthly basis, so you may see more regular income reports from me in the coming months.

In addition to a breakdown of the money I made this month, I’ve got some exciting updates to share as well, so let’s get started, shall we?

June Income

During the month of June, I earned over $1000 of side hustle income!  When I looked at the different ways in which I earned money, two things stood out to me.

For starters, the income came from 5 different sources.  Some are related to blogging, others not at all.  The other thing I noticed is that the way in which I earned money in June kind of represents two worlds;  where my side hustle income has come from in the past, and where it’s headed in the future.

In other words, I’m hoping that June represents a crossroads of sorts.  I’ll explain more further down.  First however, let’s break down June’s income.

Music Production  $800

For the uninitiated, I’ve been producing an album for a young singer/songwriter in my recording studio over the past six months.  While my total income for the project was much higher, I received the final payment in June.

I’m thrilled to say that the recording is finished, the CD has been released and is getting some great reviews!

What’s more, BrogoLogo, the logo design business I co-founded with a friend of mine, handled all of the artwork and design for the CD packaging.  It really turned out well.

Affiliate Income – BrogoLogo  $80

Speaking of BrogoLogo, I earned $80 for 2 logo design projects that I sourced during May and June.  Jay, my business partner, handles almost all of the design work, and thus earns most of the income from logo design work.

BrogoLogo is Jay’s baby.  One of the ways I help him is by sourcing clients, and in return he pays me a commission for referrals.  I consider it an affiliate income of sorts.  Passive income, my favourite kind! 🙂

I should mention, if you are looking for a new logo for your website or brand, please let me know.  We’ve worked with a number of top bloggers, and would love to do the same for you.  You can check out samples of our most recent work here and here.

Songwriting Royalties  $82

As a published songwriter, I earn royalties from a number of different sources.  Usually, this amounts to only a few dollars per month, the bulk coming from the piddly payouts of music streaming services such as Apple Music, and Spotify.  It’s pretty pathetic.

Over the past couple of months however, I started noticing a significant increase in my royalties.  For example, in May I was paid about $75, and another $82 in June.

I decided to take a closer look, and logged into the account I hold with the performing rights organization who collect all of my royalties.

As it turned out, one of the singles from an album I recorded (with my band) a couple of years ago, is on regular rotation on a small number of radio stations around the country.  I had no idea!

Now, $82 is nothing to write home about, but there no source of income that is more satisfying to me.  Not only is it completely passive, it’s the result of something I created, so there’s the sense of artistic achievement as well, no matter how small.  To me, no other source of income feels as good.

Google Adsense  $3.82

I know, why even list it.  That’s the extent of my ad revenue in June (to date).  I used to average about $10/month from Adsense, until I deleted ads entirely from my site.  When I reinstalled them some time later, I decided only to place one ad, in the sidebar.

While my site traffic has increased, my Adsense has been reduced to a cup of coffee due to only running one ad.  If you’re wondering why I even bother, it’s only to ensure that my Adsense account remains active.

Content Marketing/SEO  $200+

Songwriting royalties may be my favourite source of income, but this is the one I’m most excited about!  A few months ago, I started an SEO/Content Marketing side hustle, as an extension of my blog.  In May, I was successful in getting my first client.

For privacy reasons, I can’t provide a lot of detail, but I can say this.  I would not have landed this client without my blog.  I’m thrilled to be working with them, the work feels like the perfect fit for my skill set, and what I’m wanting to do more of when it comes to SEO/digital marketing.

At the end of June, I will invoice approximately $200, but the income should increase significantly in going forward, as I had just gotten started this month.

Total Income for June 2018:  $1165

Income At A Crossroads

I mentioned earlier that June’s income report represents a crossroads of sorts.  At least that’s what I’m hoping.  Over the past year, I spent a lot of energy recording music as a means of earning side hustle income.

But with the completion of this most recent recording project, I’m switching my focus completely to Mystery Money Man, as well as my related SEO/Content Marketing business.

I feel as though the new work I’m doing represents where my income is headed in the future, and I’m so excited about it.  I’m already developing new skill sets within the first few weeks.

All of this is part of my plan to climb down the corporate ladder, by replacing my 9-5 with full-time self employment sometime around August of 2019.

  1. Great month of side hustle income! Thanks for sharing. I recently finished a consulting engagement and am looking forward to spending some more time working on my blog. I would also like to add a coaching/consulting component to the site as well. Here’s to a great July for you on the income front.
